Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has talked up the fantastic job done by Steve Bruce since he was appointed as the club’s manager. The 59-year-old took charge of the Magpies last summer shortly after Rafael Benitez decided to move on from the club. Initially, there was much criticism over the club’s decision to appoint Bruce but he has managed to win over some of the supporters with the team’s performances this term.
“I was over the moon. He’s got a good record and straight away from pre-season you could tell it’s a different type of manager. It’s something I really like, working hard, being fit and being strong. He built the team to do that and that’s why we have been successful this season. Our running stats are always high, we press and we are well organised. He (Bruce) has driven that by himself and he’s done a fantastic job,” he told.
The Magpies are currently on the verge of a takeover from PCP Capital Partners who are backed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund. The move is expected to change the ambitions of the club and there will be several high-profile changes to the squad ahead of next season. As such, there are questions whether Bruce could remain at the helm when the current campaign concludes.
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has been identified as one of the top candidates for the head coach role. Meanwhile, Benitez has also been linked with a possible return to St James’ Park.
